In search of competitors for United Russia: delayed elections held in Kabardino-Balkaria and Kamchatka

Last Sunday, 11 October, elections to local self-government bodies were held in two regions of Russia. Deputies were elected to two representative bodies.

In the Kabardino-Balkar Republic, postponed voting took place in the main election for deputies of the Local Self-Government Council of the rural settlement of Kichmalka.

On the eve of the single voting day on 20 September, the sole candidate out of 11 representing the Communist Party died. With ten candidates remaining for ten seats, the election was postponed so that others willing to participate could come forward.

The ten registered candidates from United Russia were now joined by two self-nominated candidates.

According to the voting results, nine seats went to United Russia candidates and one to a self-nominated candidate.

Voting in the election for deputies of the Council of the village of Apuka in Kamchatka Krai was also postponed due to a lack of competition.

Now, nine registered candidates competed for seven seats: seven from United Russia and two self-nominated candidates.

According to the voting results, five seats went to United Russia candidates and two to self-nominated candidates.

And elections where candidates were never found. Voting fails for the fifth time

Due to the absence of nominated candidates, the election for the head of the Aleksandrovskoye rural settlement in Tomsk Oblast, scheduled for 11 October, again did not take place.

After Denis Pyankov left the post and was appointed head of the entire Aleksandrovsky District back in April 2025, this is already the fifth postponement of the vote. The next possible date for holding it has become 20 December.

It is worth noting that the only candidate ever nominated in this series of elections was a self-nominated candidate — a serviceman from Novosibirsk, Aleksey Mkrtchyan.
